Roof lifted on one of world's largest aircraft hangars

Work is nearing completion on one of the world’s largest aircraft hangars at the Abu Dhabi International Airport. The final section of the roof for Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies Hangar 6, which will be capable of housing three A380s and six other mid-sized aircraft, was lifted into place in April.

Award win for leading commercial office in London

The Charlotte Building in Gresse Street has won the London and South East region British Council for Offices award in the Commercial Workplace category.
 
NDY director Allen Williamson described the win as a significant achievement. “The project was up against some very good competition which makes it all the better that it was selected by the judges,” he said. “It provides an excellent example of our capabilities and we are very proud of our involvement.”

NDY Brisbane project achieves 5 star milestone

Norman Disney & Young’s 275 George Street project has been awarded a 5 star Green Star – Office ‘As Built’ v2 rating by the Green Building Council of Australia. The ‘A Grade’ commercial office building in Brisbane’s central business district had earlier been awarded a 5 star ‘Design’ rating.

AAMI Park given trial run by NDY staff

Norman Disney & Young staff have been amongst the first group of people to take the field on Melbourne’s newest sporting stadium, AAMI Park. Having played a major role in the stadium’s construction, NDY was invited to participate in a touch rugby event at the ground ahead of its official opening in May.

NDY’s Ian Harwood Appointed President of AIRAH (WA Chapter)

Ian Harwood has been appointed President of the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air-conditioning and Heating (Western Australia chapter). The appointment will last for a term of three years.

Mr Harwood said he is pleased to have been appointed and is looking forward to the challenges that await him. “Given AIRAH has always been an avid supporter of the refrigeration, air conditioning and heating industry, it is great to be part of a forum that enables me to assist that support and steer its future direction,” he said.

NDY wins award for data centre in northern England

Norman Disney & Young has won a Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Low Carbon Performance Award 2010 for the HP Wynyard Data Centre. The award for Design or Technical Innovation of the Year was presented to NDY at a ceremony in London on 4 February 2010.

The HP Wynyard Data Centre utilises a unique air cooling system. It was designed to achieve annual energy savings of over 40% compared to a typical modern data centre design.

Keith Davis appointed Director, Health Services

Mr Davis will remain based in Melbourne, where he leads NDY Melbourne’s health team. As part of his expanded role, he will oversee NDY’s continued push into the provision of specialised building services to the health sector across Australia and New Zealand.

Building owners advised to act quickly in seeking funding from Green Building Fund

Building owners should act quickly to secure assistance from the federal government’s A$90 million Green Building Fund according to Norman Disney & Young’s Melbourne-based manager of MPlus Nick Thurlow.

The Green Building Fund was set up in an attempt to reduce the energy consumed in Australia’s commercial office buildings. Grants of up to $A500,000 are available to owners of existing buildings.

Innovative outreach program targets tomorrow’s engineers
