Collins Square – Retail & Arcade

Client: Walker Corporation

Timeframe: 2011 – 2013

Architect: Bates Smart

Builder:  Brookfield Multiplex

About the project

With four main towers sitting on a central podium structure – and a fifth connected via a bridge – the site creates a series of laneways bisecting the site and travelling under some of the larger buildings.

NDYLIGHT worked with Walker Corporation on the development of an overall strategy and intent for the arcades. NDYLIGHT also collaborated with the Bates Smart team on the retail undercroft under the 4B tower.

Concealed vaulted cove structures were created to provide a defining visual element to the ceiling in the undercroft areas. These coves result in an interior space feel that is well lit while allowing limited downlighting to be utilised.

Within the arcade space, incidental lighting creates a Melbourne laneway type effect with spill lighting providing a large degree of ambient light. Local lighting under canopies and awnings illuminates the restaurant and cafe seating areas.
