About the project

Adelaide’s railway station comprised a massive sandstone building in neo-classical style when finished in 1928. Of particular note was the enormous domed Marble Hall, which served as a grand and dignified main waiting room, and is now incorporated into the SkyCity casino.

NDYLIGHT were appointed to design the Architectural Lighting for this historically significant space in September 2009, on a extremely tight time-frame. The Marble Hall was to be converted to Monte Carlo style table gaming, ready for opening by Christmas 2009.

One of the challenges faced was the design and construction of a bespoke 7.2 metre diameter chandelier over the main Bar, to be suspended from an existing heritage ceiling. The briefing, design and tender for the chandelier was completed in the first two weeks of the design programme.
